Sixty percent of executives believe they have the right to know how employees portray themselves and their companies via online social networks, according to a Deloitte LLP survey of 2,000 employed adults and 500 executives.
However, 53 percent of employees say content posted to their Facebook and Twitter profiles is not a boss’ concern. This belief is even more widely held among younger workers: 63 percent of workers ages 18 to 34 say employers have no business looking at their online activity.
Other survey findings:
• 74 percent of employees recognize that using online social networks makes it easier to tarnish a company’s reputation
• 17 percent of executives have formal ways to monitor the possible risks related to social network use
• 49 percent of employees say strict guidelines would not change their online behavior.
